Dan W - Space age Tinto
During lockdown, I wanted to go out locally and try some long exposure techniques to capture some really unique images. I was extremely pleased with the result as I was able to capture the lights as well as the stars.

Katie S - Fibonacci in Nature
The Fibonacci Sequence starts 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13... Each new number is the sum of the 2 previous numbers. This is seen everywhere in nature including in pine cones. Where the number of clockwise or anticlockwise spirals corresponds approximately with 2 adjacent numbers in this sequence. For example there could be 8 clockwise spirals and 13 anti-clockwise spirals. The leaves and petals in most plants follow this sequence to maximise the spacing between them so there is maximum exposure to sunlight.

Carla B - Reflection
Reflection - Something that on a rainy day is my favourite technique to play with. The light bouncing off of the wet surface can change the appearance, colour and shape of the original vision. In this case the trees seen the reflection are autumnal orange and red, yet here they appear blurred and dark in colour. I’ve captured the seasonal colours in the focus of the photo with the leaf to show this.
Judge's Comments
I like the way the photographer has seen this leaf as an opportunity to exploit the reflections and autumnal colours. It is often things we walk by on a daily basis that can form stunning images, this being the case with this photo.

Ellie J - Rainbow Love Heart
I did an experiment using skittles and water. I made a love heart shape and added water. Then the rainbow colours appeared. After that, the skittles turned white, but they were still yummy! I took the picture using Mummy's phone.

Judge's Comments
There was obvious creative intent with this image. I really like the way the colours have run to create a heart of many colours. I did wonder if this was a Rainbow Heart for the NHS. For that I must award this 1st prize.

This is a photo of some mushrooms moss and grass this is special because Fungal cells are similar to plant and animal cells in that they have a nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm and mitochondria. Like plant cells, fungal cells have a cell wall but they aren't made of cellulose they're made of chitin instead.
Fungal cells also contain mitochondria and a complex system of internal membranes, including the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. Unlike plant cells, fungal cells do not have chloroplasts or chlorophyll. Many fungi display bright colours arising from other cellular pigments ranging from red to green to black.

I like that the photographer had thought enough about this image to get down and dirty in order to get up close with the funghi subject. What’s not to like?
