There is an amazing biodiversity of pathogens which infect living things. Discover how we can detect them for the purposes of diagnosing and tracking disease outbreaks and creating vaccines that will protect against different pathogen strains. Become a Disease Detective in this interactive workshop to find out “Who done it?” and “Who got it?”

An interactive exhibition using a microscope to look at microorganisms and then using the imagery to create your own artwork.

Wanlockhead Lead Mining Museum

Learn the secrets of the rocks and minerals in this area. Try your hand at gold panning and take home with you any gold you find. There will be a small charge for gold panning to cover costs.

Do you know what lives in the deep waters of the North Atlantic that surround Scotland?  Discover more about how scientists of the ATLAS project are exploring the deep sea and working out how to protect marine eco-systems in a changing ocean.  Play with some real and virtual underwater robots (ROVs); get hands-on with some watery experiments and investigate biodiversity in the deep!

Scottish Badgers Wildlife Crime Scene Investigation

Clues are provided from a wildlife ‘crime scene’ e.g. human fingerprints, animal paw prints and hair found at the location. YOU are the detective and can work out from a variety of samples which animal is involved and which human has perpetrated the crime. A fun self-guided CSI activity that can be followed by parents and children together to ‘solve the crime’!

Find out whether you have the gene for alopecia (baldness) and discover the gross biofilms (slime) that grow on contact lenses if you don't clean them properly!
